This is a pilot project that is attempting to duplicate the successes UNAIDS had in Zimbabwe through Southern African HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAFAIDS) Zimbabwe.

​​This project uses a participatory that views men as protectors against Gender Based Violence (GBV). This project has 3 tiers in

DOWA: Men as protectors, Stepping Stones, A combination of men as protectors and stepping stones.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Objective 1: Strengthen community by-laws that promote women’s safety and SRHR in the context of HIV and GBV developed and                           implemented in three TAs of Zomba District by February 2016.
  • ​Objective 2: Support men and boys to contribute to a safe environment for women and girls and ensure gender equality in three TAs                       in Zomba, by April 2016
  • Objective 3: Increase open communication among couples, women and men around HIV, gender equality and address GBV in three                       TAs, by April 2016
  • Objective 4: Strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems for data and information generation.

This project also aims to remove obstacles that women and children experience while trying to access and promote their rights.

  • ​Objective 2: To influence women and men to modify or eliminate inequitable attitudes and behaviours in relationships and families that                     disempower women and girls and increase the risk of GBV and HIV
  • Objective 3: To empower and support communities to influence the development of district services that are responsive to the needs                       of women and girls in particular.
  • ​Objective 4: To provide evidence to influence changes in national level policy to support the empowerment of women and girls.
  • ​Objective 5: To ensure target communities benefit from the achievement of objectives through improved programme management                           and enhanced partner capacity.​
